Functional Movement Screen
Functional Movement Screen is a system of ranking and grading that documents movement patterns that are fundamental to normal function. By recording these patterns the FMS identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are problems that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness leading to recurrent injuries and lowered performance.
The Functional Movement Screen generates a Score which is used to track progress and highlights, in rank order, those movement issues which need to be corrected with individualised corrective movements. As clinicians and specialists in this area we monitor your FMS score to track your progress and determine those exercises that will be most effective to restore stability and joint mobility.
Utilizing simple language, the FMS makes it easy for individuals, exercise professionals, and health professionals to communicate clearly about progress and treatment.
The FMS creates a functional baseline to mark progress and provides a means to measure performance.
The FMS can be applied at any fitness level and offers a logical framework to organise the most appropriate corrective strategies for a wide range of movement issues.
The screen effectively identifies limitations and asymmetries, reducing the need for analysis and extensive testing.
The FMS allows dangerous movement patterns to be addressed by quickly identifying them. It also highlights an individual’s readiness to perform exercise so that realistic goals can be set and achieved.
Using individual FMS scores it identifies specific exercises to create individualised treatment plans.
