Osteopathy aims to improve the function of the body and therefore the patient as a whole by influencing the structural components, such as muscles, joints, ligaments and bones. It also encourages the flow of blood and lymphatics to facilitate the body to heal itself using its own built in mechanisms.
Osteopathic treatment uses a wide variety of techniques, which can include working on ligaments, joints and muscles to help improve your function and decrease your pain. You will receive treatment that is appropriate for you as an individual and helps you improve as quickly as possible.
On your first visit we will discuss your problem along with a full medical history. This is an important part of the diagnosis process and will guide which examinations will be performed, along with any screening for potential medical issues.
A biomechanical assessment is performed, and you will be asked to carry out some simple movements to assess the mobility of your body. We discuss your results together with your prognosis, and potential options for your treatment.
We understand that you may be nervous about treatment so we have created a relaxed and supportive environment so that patients can voice any concerns they may have.
Using a broad range of rhythmic stretching and thrusting techniques we are often able to relieve your pain and other symptoms. This allows your body heal itself and helps you to reach your maximum health and potential, whilst looking better and moving more easily with improved posture.
After initial treatment we may need to deal with the problem using exercises similar to physiotherapy. We’ll tailor these to your requirements depending on your physical abilities and your goals.
In addition to your ‘hands on’ treatment we’ll make suggestions for changes in your workplace, at home or in the car; changes to your diet, exercise routines or we’ll teach you simple relaxation techniques.
